1 injured after maintenance vehicle rolls in Harvey County

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) – The driver of a maintenance vehicle had to be airlifted to a local hospital after rolling off the road in Harvey County.

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office said emergency crews responded to the single-vehicle accident east of Newton around 2 p.m. on Monday. The maintenance vehicle had rolled on East First Street between Oliver and Woodlawn roads. One patient was found, pinned inside a truck in critical condition, according to Newton Fire & EMS.

“C-Shift crews worked diligently for just over an hour to free the patient, cutting away parts of the cab and using hydraulic spreaders and rams to gain access. Upon extrication the patient was transported by Eagle Med to Wesley Medical Center,” said the agency.

First Street will be closed between Oliver and Woodlawn for the next several hours while crews work to upright the vehicle and clean up spilled diesel fuel. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
