1 teen dies, another seriously injured in two-car crash on Rt. 21

A teen died and another was seriously injured Friday in a two-car crash in Passaic on Route 21, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis Guzman said.

A 49-year-old Plainfield man collided near exit 11B with a 2011 Honda Accord that was driven by Jasdanny Villalta, 18. Villalta, of Paterson, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash occurred at approximately 10:26 p.m., authorities said.

A 19-year-old Paterson resident was in the car with Villalta and was taken to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, authorities said.

The driver of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, who was not identified by authorities, was not injured in the crash. He remained on the scene and presented a valid license, authorities said.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation remains active and ongoing.
