Prime Automotive Group sells 10 stores, settles disputes

Prime in August said it had resolved its disputes with both Toyota and Subaru of New England. The retailer wouldn’t disclose whether the settlements will require Prime and GPB to sell any of its five Toyota or three Subaru of New England dealerships or whether the agreements include appointing Skelton, a former AutoNation Inc. executive, as dealer principal of the stores.

Toyota, Subaru of New England and other automakers pushed for Prime to sell certain stores after GPB fired former Prime CEO David Rosenberg in September 2019.

GPB, an alternative asset management firm, faces numerous investor lawsuits and is the target of federal and state investigations on potential violations of securities law.

Some automakers were upset about Rosenberg’s dismissal and said alleged contract breaches by GPB were grounds for franchise termination.

The best car insurance for teens and young drivers in 2020

If you are or know someone who just got their driver’s license and a vehicle, remember that having auto insurance is mandatory in 48 states — and most policies will charge more for those who are new to driving. An insurer may conclude that it’s a greater risk to cover a teenage or first time driver than an experienced driver with safe driving habits.

Car insurance rate premiums shoot up by around 130 to 140% when a teen driver is added to an existing policy and can rise an additional 20 to 40% if that driver gets a speeding ticket or has an accident. Rates like these tend to remain in place until a driver turns 20.

Adding a teen driver to an auto insurance policy can get pricey, but there are ways to soften the blow to your wallet.

VIDEO: Mercedes’ Avatar-inspired concept drives without steering wheel

  • Mercedes-Benz released driving footage of its futuristic “Vision AVTR” concept car on Saturday.
  • Mercedes got its inspiration for the car from the film “Avatar” and aimed to develop a “completely new interaction between human, machine and nature.”
  • The car has no steering wheel and can “crab walk” diagonally.

The concept is called the Vision AVTR, and Mercedes debuted the otherworldly car in partnership with the “Avatar” films. The idea behind the vehicle, Mercedes said, was to create a “completely new interaction between human, machine and nature.”

Instead of a steering wheel, the concept sports a “multifunctional control element” on the center tunnel that
