A Bridgeport woman suffered a serious head injury when she was struck by a car while crossing Park Avenue Friday night.
Police responded to a call reporting a serious crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Park Avenue and Olive Street at 10:10 p.m.
A 32-year-old Bridgeport woman, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was crossing Park Avenue when she was struck by a silver Volvo station wagon that was being driven south by 34-year-old Sheila Ortiz of Bridgeport. The pedestrian was lifted onto the hood of the Volvo, and fell off into the northbound lane, according to a release from Scott Appleby, director of the Bridgeport Office of Emergency Management.
Ortiz pulled over and assisted the injured woman, Appleby said.
The pedestrian was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she was admitted to intensive care, according to Appleby. He said Sunday she is in stable condition.
The Bridgeport Police Traffic Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is still determining the cause of the crash. Anyone with further information may contact Officer Dolyak in the Bridgeport Police Traffic Division at 203-576-7640.
