DeWitt police seek public’s help in finding car thief

DeWitt, N.Y. — DeWitt police are asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation.

Police on Monday released photographs of a man caught on video surveillance using a victim’s key fob to steal the vehicle around 1 p.m. Sept. 3 from Texas Roadhouse’s parking lot on Erie Boulevard in DeWitt, officers said.

The victim lost the key fob in June, according to police.

Cameras from the neighboring Olive Garden parking lot showed the suspect was dropped off in a dark colored SUV before he stole the vehicle, police said. Officers have not yet identified the SUV he arrived in, they said.

Police have recovered the stolen vehicle, but they have not yet identified the man seen driving away with it from the Texas Roadhouse parking lot earlier this month.

The suspect is a white man with a chin-strap beard. He was wearing a dark colored baseball cap, white shirt with a black tank top over it, a fanny pouch-style bag draped over his chest, black shorts and Nike sandals at the time, police said.

DeWitt police ask anyone who recognizes the man in the photos to call them at (315) 449-3640 or by email at [email protected]
