  • The toddler fell behind her mother, who turned around to see a man holding her

A man tried to snatch a two-year-old girl who was out for a bike ride with her brother and mother.

The family were riding their bikes along Weeks Avenue, Harkness, outer-west Melbourne, at 9.20am on Tuesday.

The toddler fell behind her 32-year-old mother – who turned around to see a man holding her child by the wrist.

He was trying to drag the toddler in the opposite direction of her mother.

The girl’s mother rode her bike over and the man ran away, leaving the child unharmed.

The man ran past the mother as he made his getaway.

He man was described as being of African appearance, in his early 20s, wearing dark clothes and a white baseball cap but no mask.
