Austin police on Tuesday said they are looking for a man who fired a gun into the air last month during a large car gathering in North Austin.
Police said the incident occurred during a multi-agency operation on Sept. 12 to stop large groups of cars from gathering in lots near the intersection of Interstate 35 and Parmer Lane. Multiple reports of reckless behavior and criminal activity tied to the meetings, police said.
During that operation, which resulted in 22 arrests and 25 impounded vehicles, police said a fight broke out between people in a parking lot at 12425 Interstate 35 around 11:15 p.m., during which time a man fired a gun into the air.
Police described the man as stocky and wearing a red sweatshirt, gray Nike shorts with lettering on the left leg and possibly dark-colored sneakers.
Shooting a gun into the air in a crowded space is a third-degree felony, police said.
Those who have information regarding the Sept. 12 incident can submit tips to Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477 or through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers website.
