Bicycle Advocates Encourage Residents To ‘Bike To Wherever’
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN)
Bicycle advocates kicked off ‘Bike to Wherever Day’ on Thursday, encouraging San Franciscans to bike instead of taking a vehicle to their destination.
Typically, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition holds Bike to Work day around this of time of year, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the stay-home order, the coalition rebranded the event, encouraging residents to simply bike, regardless of their destination.
“Throughout the pandemic, thousands of San Franciscans have turned to biking as a way to get around safely for essential trips and to find joy and freedom while maintaining physical and mental wellbeing,” Bicycle Coalition officials said in a statement.
People biking around the city on Thursday are being asked to share photos online with the hashtag #BTWD.
Also, as part of the event, bicycle coalition staff and volunteers handed out free tote bags and educational resources at several locations throughout the city.
