Shots fired at vehicle of off-duty Harris County deputy working security job

Shots were fired Thursday night at the vehicle of an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy as he patrolled a west Houston apartment complex where he works an extra security job, officials said.

An unknown suspect fired shots at the unmarked police vehicle, striking it multiple times but missing the deputy, around 8:40 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 2100 block of Hayes Road in Briarforest, said Major Tony Huynh of the sheriff’s office.

The deputy, who was in full  uniform, had a conversation with an unknown person, got into his car and was driving around a corner when the shots were fired, Huynh said.

The deputy was not injured. He has been a police officer for eight years and employed by the sheriff’s office for five years.
