Humboldt Park crash injures 3, including child after car jumps curb, hitting Iglesia el Ultimo Tiempo church

CHICAGO (WLS) — Surveillance cameras were rolling as a car jumped a curb, crashing into people on the sidewalk outside a church in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood Saturday.

The crash has left a young boy and two adults in the hospital recovering, according to Chicago police.

The graphic surveillance video showed the moment the car hit a man standing on the corner just before noon in the 4200-block of West North Ave.

The man didn’t see the car coming, but a Good Samaritan nearby saw the incident and rushed in to help.

Right behind the man hit by the car was a child and his mother who were barely able to jump out of the way.

Pa. driver with suspended license admits hitting bicycle-pulled carrier that critically injured infant

LEWISBURG – The driver of a SUV that struck a then 11-month-old girl in a carrier being pulled by her mother’s bicycle has pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault by vehicle.

Tyler Bean–Dowell, 30, of Millmont, entered the plea Tuesday in Union County court.

There is an agreement other charges are to be dismissed but not on the sentence that is scheduled to be imposed in December. Sentencing guidelines call for jail time.

Bean-Dowell admitted he was the driver of the SUV that on April 21 struck the carrier in which the infant was riding. It was being pulled by a bicycle ridden by her mother, Abigail Martin of Lewisburg.

The infant, Megan, who was injured critically, has recovered, District Attorney D. Peter Johnson said.

Bean-Dowell had been charged with two counts of aggravated assault by vehicle with Martin being the other victim.

Brighton man charged after allegedly throwing sandbag off overpass, hitting car

NOVI, MI — A Brighton man accused of throwing sandbags off of an overpass and hitting a car earlier this week was arraigned on a felony charge Wednesday. David Garcia, 41, appeared in 52-1 District Court for a charge of throwing objects at trains/cars causing serious impairment and was given a cash bond of $50,000.

Garcia was charged in the case after he allegedly threw several sandbags off of the overpass at I-96 near Old Plank Road Sunday night. Police say they were called to the scene around 11 p.m. for a one-car crash and eventually determined that the vehicle in the crash belonged to Garcia.

Springfield woman charged with hitting man on head with liquor bottle, setting his car on fire

SPRINGFIELD — Police arrested a 37-year-old woman on charges that she hit a man in the head with a liquor bottle and then set his car on fire, officials said.

Lashawanda Naylor of East Bay Terrace is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and burning a motor vehicle.

The charges are in connection with an Aug. 20 car fire at Wellington Street and Wilbraham Road. The fire was determined to be arson and the city Arson and Bomb Squad and police detectives started an investigation, according to Capt. Drew Piemonte, Fire Department spokesman.

The driver of the car had been hit in the head by a woman, who then poured oil inside the car and tossed fireworks into the back seat before leaving. The fireworks apparently ignited a fire that consumed the vehicle, he said.
