80-year-old rescues man from sinking car, years after saving 2 people from a burning home

When Steve Montelongo saw a car sinking in a canal, he jumped into action to save the driver’s life — just like he did nearly 20 years ago, when he rescued two elderly people from their burning home.

On Thursday, the 80-year-old was driving his granddaughter home from a dentist appointment in Modesto, California, when they spotted a car down in a canal. He pulled over, and while there were other people looking down into the water, they weren’t doing anything. Montelongo jumped into the canal, and yanked open the driver’s door, which was unlocked. With water now rushing into the car, he pulled the driver out to safety. The man, who appeared to have a medical episode before the crash, was not injured.

“I don’t consider myself a hero,” Montelongo told KOVR. “I was just a fella that got put in the right place at the right time.” In

Armed duo fleeing home invasion caught after crashing into cop car, 2 other vehicles

Allentown police arrested two men on multiple felonies after they allegedly broke into a home while armed and a gunshot was fired, authorities said.

Officers responded to the break-in call just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of West Emmett Street, Allentown police Chief Glenn Granitz Jr. said in a news release.

No one home at the time of the incident was injured, police said.

Allentown police converged on the area, and the two suspects were observed running to a vehicle parked nearby, according to the release.

They attempted to drive off but struck three unoccupied, parked vehicles — including a police car — before their vehicle broke down and they were forced to flee on foot, police said. Patrol officers quickly took them into custody.

Granitz identified the suspects as Richard Robinson, 33, of Newark, New Jersey, and 34-year-old Kasson Green, who has no current address.

Legal drivers a premium in returning cars home: Olmsted Township Police Blotter

Warrant: Stearns Road

An officer stopped a car at 1:27 a.m. Oct. 4 on Stearns Road since the owner showed an open warrant in Florida. He learned the motorist was driving on a suspended license. Florida authorities told officers they should tell the driver about the warrant as he was out of the pickup radius. The driver was cited and given the option to have a friend take possession of the car rather than have it towed. When the friend arrived, however, she had an open warrant for her arrest through North Olmsted. That city’s police arrived shortly to pick her up. Eventually, enough people – without warrants – arrived and drove the cars away.
