Two dead in fiery single-vehicle crash on I-80 in San Pablo

Two people died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in San Pablo on Friday afternoon, California Highway Patrol officials said.

CHP’s dispatch center received multiple calls reporting a crash on westbound Interstate 80 at San Pablo Dam Road at 5:52 p.m. Friday, CHP Officer Damian Cistaro told The Chronicle.

Motorists on I-80 pulled over and worked together to pull a person out of the burning Kia sedan, according to a video shared on Twitter. One woman begged for a crowbar, another person appeared to use a saw to cut through the vehicle, and another swung a long, blunt object at the vehicle.

“Break the window! Break the window!” the person videoing the scene said, joining others in the same plea.

Another video shows a group of people surrounding a person who appeared to be pulled from the vehicle. Several feet away, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
