The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the hit-and-run driver of a truck that struck and killed a 57-year-old man crossing the street with a bicycle.

A 57-year-old man walking a bicycle across the street was struck by a truck and killed, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the hit-and-run driver.

The man — whose name was not disclosed until his family could be notified — was crossing Lantana Road just east of Bangalow Drive in West Lantana about 11:14 p.m. Thursday.

The eastbound truck sideswiped the pedestrian who was thrown to the pavement by the impact. He was taken to Delray Medical Center where he died of his injuries about midnight Thursday, investigators said.

Officials: Suicide car bomb targets Afghan governor, kills 8

KABUL, Afghanistan — A suicide car bomber targeted the convoy of a provincial governor in eastern Afghanistan on Monday, killing at least eight people, including four civilians, government officials said.

The governor, Rahmatullah Yarmal, was unharmed in the attack in Laghman province, according to his spokesman, Asadullah Dawlatzai.

Four of Yarmal’s bodyguards were killed, the spokesman said, adding that about 38 people — both military and civilians — were wounded in the attack, which took place in Mihterlam, the provincial capital. Dawlatzai said 36 civilians were among the wounded, including children, as well as two other bodyguards of the governor.

The explosion also left several badly damaged vehicles at the site of the attack. The wounded, including small children, were taken to the city’s main hospitals.

Multi-vehicle crash on northeast Chinese highway kills 18

BEIJING — A crash on a highway in China’s northeast early Sunday killed 18 people, police said.

A minivan rear-ended a tractor and then collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction in Fuyu, a city in Jilin province, local police announced on their social media account.

Eight people died at the scene and 10 more at hospitals, while one more person was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the statement said.

It said the cause of the accident was under investigation.

Car fire kills female driver after vehicle hits tree in Roosevelt, Nassau cops say

A female driver was killed Sunday afternoon in Roosevelt after she crashed a Toyota into a tree, and the vehicle caught fire, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The crash happened on Hudson Avenue, between Elysian Terrace and North Long Beach Avenue, at about 4:10 p.m. as the driver was headed westbound in a 2020 Toyota RAV4.

She “left the roadway and struck a tree,” according to a news release from Police Officer Eric Evensen, a department spokesman.

“As a result of the collision her car became fully engulfed in flames,” the release said.

The Roosevelt Fire Department extinguished the fire, and she was found inside and declared dead at the scene, according to the release, which said her name would be withheld until her family can be notified.
