Brighton man charged after allegedly throwing sandbag off overpass, hitting car

NOVI, MI — A Brighton man accused of throwing sandbags off of an overpass and hitting a car earlier this week was arraigned on a felony charge Wednesday. David Garcia, 41, appeared in 52-1 District Court for a charge of throwing objects at trains/cars causing serious impairment and was given a cash bond of $50,000.

Garcia was charged in the case after he allegedly threw several sandbags off of the overpass at I-96 near Old Plank Road Sunday night. Police say they were called to the scene around 11 p.m. for a one-car crash and eventually determined that the vehicle in the crash belonged to Garcia.

Following the crash, police say Garcia walked up the offramp and into a construction area where he found the sandbags. he began hurling them off the overpass and actually hit a vehicle driven by a woman traveling along westbound I-96. The sandbag crashed through
